Book Club

Monday 7th February, 2022

11:00 am

Book Club will be meeting on Monday 7th February 2022 at 11 a.m. on Zoom.

In January we looked at the books of Kristen Hannah and in particular The Nightingale – the story of two sisters struggling to survive in occupied France during World War II. This led to a discussion on life within occupied France, collaboration with the German forces and heroic acts of ordinary citizens to help save many Jewish children, families and Allied airmen shot down over France.

In February we will continue with this, to allow everyone a chance to finish reading it.

We will also be looking at Around the World in 80 days by Jules Verne. Now a new TV series, we are wondering how it compares with the book. Published in 1872/ 73, it follows the adventures of Phileas Fogg, who wagers that he can travel across the globe in just 80 days. With his faithful servant Passepartout, he embarks on the adventures of a lifetime, travelling across four continents by train, elephant and steam ship amongst other means. The book follows his journey and his adventures along the way. Will he win the wager?

We will also look at our favourite childhood books – so please join us for what will be a very interesting hour.

Just bring your books, thoughts and a cup of coffee and log in!
